In modern times, women have headed governments in more than 50 countries around the  world. This class examines their diverse  biographies and pathways to power: and suggests explanations for why no woman has ascended to the Presidency of the United States.                                                                                                                                 

Susan M. Hartman is Professor Emerita of History at The Ohio State University.  She has published several books and numerous articles on women and politics, on feminism and on public policy.
