Experiencing Japanese Culture

with Four Presenters

Experience the Japanese concept of hospitality known as “Omotenashi,” a welcoming treat to all the senses.Watch a calligrapher create and join a hands-on calligraphy workshop.  Enjoy a Japanese Tea ceremony.  Hear the Columbus Koto Ensemble with traditional instruments and the Japanese “Koto” harp.  Learn about Japanese customs  and contributions through a lecture about the day’s experiences.

 Yasus Arceno, a master calligrapher and teacher with Kanji 8th dan & Kana 5th dan, holds calligraphy exhibitions and wabisabi exhibitions.

 

 Yumiko Passalacqua, native of Osaka, Japan, has been practicing tea ceremonies for over 50 years. She is a  certified Japanese Tea instructor, known as Souyu. She is happy to invite us to our An, the word for tea cottage, where we will experience tea ceremony together.

 Columbus Koto Ensemble with its founding members Lori Fannin, Jessica Entis and Lisa Reaves have captivated audiences throughout Ohio blending entertainment with education.

Preeti Manchanda, our guide through this event will share more insights and more of the wonderful customs of Japanese culture.

Preeti has been Japanese Language student and a MEXT scholar. Her time in Japan gave her the opportunity to immerse in Japanese culture and arts. 

She brings a wealth of experience working in promotion of Japanese culture and business in the United States, Japan, and her home country of India. She has planned and executed various cultural and community events and seminars and is passionate about showcasing Japanese culture to the local community.
